Story Behind the Artwork

"Ocean Pool Obsession" – Growing up in Toowoomba, where a holiday to Noosa or Byron Bay happened only once a year, ocean swimming wasn't second nature to me. Now living at Avalon Beach, ocean pools have proven to be a game-changer for a regional Toowoomba girl. These havens from surf and rips offer a sanctuary of calmer, cooler, shark-free water and the inspiration for my latest series of work. I am drawn to the collision of the built environment against the powerful seascapes. I am fascinated by the angles, perspectives and shadows cast by the edges and rails. The colour palette is carefully chosen to reflect the beauty of the seascape, promote wellbeing and portray a tranquil and calm experience for the viewer.
